AutomatonThis was a 4 week college project based on Halloween! I was looking into the origins of werewolves and I came across Viking Beserkers who used to wear wolf/bear pelts going into battles, etc.! So that led on to how people used to tell their children stories of werewolves/wolves snatching up children in the woods (think of Little Red Riding Hood)! The trees/hedges move in and out, revealing the the viking wearing the wolf pelt, which moves up and down. | Percy the PenguinThe beginning of my Model Making career: Percy the Penguin! Inspired by the quirky African Penguin, Percy is packed full of fun! His armature is made from various strengths of wire, he is filled with rice and polyester cotton and his skin is made from a swimming suit!! I wanted to create him in such a way that he could appear to be a real penguin, a stop-motion character and a child's toy. | Abyssinian Ground Hornbill SculptSculpted from Sculpey with a wooden base and supported by a wire mesh. Each feather was applied individually. |
Hornbill Street Theatre CostumeImage from the back of my Hornbill puppet, reminds me of all the feathers i made for it! (About 2000 feathers in total). | Hornbill Street Theatre CostumeThis is my 7ft Hornbill Puppet, inspired by the Abyssinian Ground Hornbill and African tribal designs! The theme for my class's street theatre project was the Victorian Circus Freakshow, but our characters had to be based on a chosen animal! His mouth bobs, the bobbles on his stick are filled with rice, small pebbles and beads and all of the colours bring an energetic feel to the character! The costume is really easy to work with! Only takes 2mins to put on and you can easily move/dance/jump! | Wexford Crimean War MemorialTrainee Stone Mason restoring and working with lime during Winter 2014. |
